Thread measurement over wires

Three-wire measurement for 60° threads, with the best wire size.

For 60° threads: M = E − 0.86603 × P + 3W, where E is the pitch diameter and P the pitch. The best wire (0.57735 × P) touches the flanks at the pitch line. Use the pitch-diameter limits of the class of fit you are making for real inspection.
